This snuff is very approachable, with moderate burn. Nothing overwhelming here, but enough nicotine is present to help keep the engine revving along. It has plenty of moisture, and a grind that is easy to pinch and hold in the anatomical snuff box. The scent profile, although layered, remains approachable, and does not have any "abrasive" components. Menthol is absent.

There is plenty of moisture in the pouch; the coarse nature prevents clumping. Dark brown in colour, with no speckling, this is a medium-leaning-coarse snuff paired with an easy-to-pinch soft grind.

This snuff comes out of the pouch with a unique flavour and scent profile, based in part on ripe fruit, lighter notes of bergamot, the edge of a sweet red wine, and a base blend of tobacco that presents itself in three distinct layers. The top note is the lightest, with just the edge of bergamot and other botanical scents coming through alongside the base tobacco. In the middle is a more challenging-to-identify profile, a more robust blend of the wine and tobacco, providing a richer body to the scent profile as the lighter botanical notes begin to fade. At the core of the snuff, these two previous layers begin to come together.

The fermentation here does not carry the barnyardness or ammonia-soaked character of mass-produced tobaccos, but instead a better, more layered, and nuanced melding of ingredients. There is a touch of wine that blends with and pulls at the essences of raisin and fig, swirling them back around into the lighter top notes. There is also the memory of vanilla that just cannot quite be identified on its own, but instead has been blended into the whole, sitting nearly hidden as an individual note. Yet, in combination with the wine and darker fruits, it comes through in the slightest note, all while paying full respect to the base blend tobacco flour, which is really doing the heavy lifting here. This is not nearly as figgy as other fermented snuffs or Schmalzlers. Instead, the darker fruit notes channel through the bergamot, wine, and tobacco of the previous layers, with the raisin, fig, and almost hidden vanilla seeming to pull everything together. What begins with the lighter edge of bergamot eventually settles into something much darker and richer, but the base tobacco is never lost underneath it. Rather, each of these notes seems to meld into the tobacco itself, leaving a layered and lasting impression.
