The Xian Schmalzler collection brings the old Bavarian style to Chinese artisan snuff making. Menthol-free, medium strength, soft moist medium-fine grind and classic Xian flavours: cocoa, date, mango, and peach.

A Schmalzler is defined by two things: a deeply fermented base and a dressing of oil. The name comes from Schmalz, the German word for rendered fat, because the ground tobacco was traditionally worked with clarified butter, though today a neutral oil is used.

The leaf is fermented slowly, in the classic manner, then coarsely milled. The result is a moist, soft, easy snuff carrying the signature Schmalzler notes: fermented fruit, fresh bread, fig and molasses.
