High-pH potash snuff

A simple recipe for a snuff with a high pH, which makes nicotine uptake more efficient. It works out at about pH 10. The recipe was posted untested.

Equipment
Digital scalesFor weighing tobacco, alkalis and salt accurately, which matters most when you're working in small batches.Mixing bowlFor stirring liquids into ground tobacco and letting it sit while it takes up moisture.Airtight jarsFor resting snuff while it develops, and for storing it afterwards.GlovesFor handling alkalis such as sodium carbonate (soda ash), potash and slaked lime.

Notes
Commercial snuffs range from about pH 5.5 to 10, and a pH meter will tell you where yours sits. Potash is strongly alkaline, so wear gloves and keep it out of your eyes.
