Sir Walter Scotts - Latakia Blend
Sir Walter Scotts - Latakia Blend
Sir Walter Scotts Latakia Blend combines finely ground, fermented Latakia tobacco with first priming flue-cured Virginia Lemon leaf. The snuff has a slightly moist texture and high nicotine content. Tasting notes include intense smoky and peppery notes.
Latakia tobacco originates from the port city of Latakia in northern Syria but is now mainly produced in Cyprus. The tobacco leaves are first sun-dried and then smoke-cured over smouldering aromatic wood fires. This fire-curing process gives Latakia its characteristic smoky and peppery profile. The tobacco type is commonly used as a condiment in Oriental pipe tobacco blends.

Sir Walter Scotts - Latakia Blend
Happy about effort made to circumvent tariffs and blocks to international business.
If you are a pipe smoker and like Latakia, you'll love this snuff. If not, avoid! If you've never had Latakia, it's something special for sure, but has the tendency to overtake everything else in the blend. It's what is used in English pipe blends. The closest I can compare it to snuff wise is a scotch, but the smoke character is entirely different. Even though it is mixed with Lemon Virginia, it is hardly noticeable as the Latakia dominates. At first taking it by itself it was a bit too much and I wasn't enjoying it, but it takes a bit to acclimate to Lat blends. I find it best as a mixer in small-medium amounts. It can really boost some snuffs into a unique territory. There are few nasal snuffs that use Latakia, there may have been an Old Mill or Molens that used it but I forget. I've found it mixes amazingly with Gawith Hoggarth's Cafe Regal, and also mixes nice with Irish #22 or High Dry Toast. Give it a shot, this is a unique snuff for sure!
I'm a fan of English blended pipe tobacco, but was hesitant to try a Latakia snuff. I'm glad I took the leap of faith. SWS has the finest handcrafted snuffs in the business. True Old World craftsmanship. This is finely ground powdered snuff, reminiscent of toasted scotch snuffs. Definitely not a newbie snuff, or those just dabbling, it takes a certain control to enjoy this powder. There is a fantastic burn that fills the nostrils with a campfire scent. Great with a cup of coffee, or early in the morning on a cold autumn or winter's day, this will surely wake you up in the morn. I think this is SWS's strongest offering. It does give a mighty wallop of beloved Vitamin N. It's not complex, but is a bold smoky powerhouse straight to the dome. For snuffers who like strong, plain straight up tobacco, this Latakia takes it up a notch.
Smokey as f_-k . I take 3 or 4 pinches a time and when I break a sweat I'm happy.
They were out of the small tins and I got the what seems like a bucket load . My nose reassured me " I got this".
Trying to find a Sir Walter Scott's product I don't like!
